Reading about Covid while still sick from Covid 🦠 1) we were shockingly unprepared for a pandemic; 2) capitalism is toxic and nearly as culpable as the virus; 3) this will happen again。

Let's not Forget! This is an excellent book。 Humans can only take so much。 We tend to forget quickly。 Mr McSwane tells a compelling story and gets the atmosphere just right。 I hope many people read his book and remember the hell we went through。 We need to remember。 Let's not Forget! This is an excellent book。 Humans can only take so much。 We tend to forget quickly。 Mr McSwane tells a compelling story and gets the atmosphere just right。 I hope many people read his book and remember the hell we went through。 We need to remember。 。。。more

Pandemic, Inc。 manages to be funny while also infuriating。 Deep and dogged reporting into the many ways the America health-industrial complex is screwed up -- and screwed us。

These are the crooks, swindlers, bumbling bureaucrats and crooked politicians in the White House and Congress who stole billions of dollars during the world’s greatest pandemic。 The author is a veteran newspaper investigative reporter who follows the money in one of the greatest swindles in American history。 The federal government had the biggest cookie jar and everyone wanted a piece of it, he says。 Why #journalism matters。

A whirlwind of top-notch investigative journalism, deftly arranged to read like a thriller。I'll confess, due to the subject matter of this book and a bit of COVID news exhaustion on my part, I did not expect Pandemic, Inc。 to be a thrilling read。 I was wrong。 Once I got into the story, I couldn't put it down。 Through thorough first person investigative reporting and savvy writing, J。 David McSwane shows that some of the most interesting stories are unfolding all around us, often in the unexplore A whirlwind of top-notch investigative journalism, deftly arranged to read like a thriller。I'll confess, due to the subject matter of this book and a bit of COVID news exhaustion on my part, I did not expect Pandemic, Inc。 to be a thrilling read。 I was wrong。 Once I got into the story, I couldn't put it down。 Through thorough first person investigative reporting and savvy writing, J。 David McSwane shows that some of the most interesting stories are unfolding all around us, often in the unexplored gaps between the words of familiar news headlines。 McSwane does a deep a dive into some of those gaps, interviewing and reporting on several behind-the-scenes leaders, grifters, opportunists, and uniquely American figures who bungled our nation's COVID response and sought profit and advantage while others suffered and died。 If you want to know how government can go awry, and how corruption attempts to thrive in the dark shadows of crisis, this is the book。 McSwane writes in the Author's Note that he hopes "this story will serve as a guide to future generations on what exactly they shouldn't do if faced with such a crisis。" Here's hoping that people will pay attention to this well-documented account, and glean the right lessons from it。 。。。more

McSwane narrates an unscrupulous, downright criminal federal buying spree of nonexistent or undeliverable public health supplies meant to protect us from a deadly plague。 Driven by two years of dogged reporting on pandemic contracting, he shows that when a crisis hits, hucksters lurk in the eaves to exploit a morally and administratively depleted government。 Massive public resources were squandered to make a very specific group of people rich - profit making that did incalculable violence to Ame McSwane narrates an unscrupulous, downright criminal federal buying spree of nonexistent or undeliverable public health supplies meant to protect us from a deadly plague。 Driven by two years of dogged reporting on pandemic contracting, he shows that when a crisis hits, hucksters lurk in the eaves to exploit a morally and administratively depleted government。 Massive public resources were squandered to make a very specific group of people rich - profit making that did incalculable violence to American lives。 The author’s reportage and insights amount to an indictment of the American impulse to outsource crucial government functions to untrustworthy and incompetent actors。 McSwane spares no one who deserves sparing, but he focuses on history's most dangerous iteration of a political party, the American GOP, which actively worsened the crisis。 This book will enrage you and, hopefully, spur you to action。 。。。more

Fantastic book that manages to be both entertaining and enraging at the same time。 The author's skill in digging up information that the powerful and those engaged in deception don't want us to know is admirable, and his writing somehow makes even government contracting exciting to read about。 At the same time, he shows empathy and care for the people he writes about。 Highly recommend this book to better understand a sad chapter in our nation's history。 Fantastic book that manages to be both entertaining and enraging at the same time。 The author's skill in digging up information that the powerful and those engaged in deception don't want us to know is admirable, and his writing somehow makes even government contracting exciting to read about。 At the same time, he shows empathy and care for the people he writes about。 Highly recommend this book to better understand a sad chapter in our nation's history。 。。。more

Written with a propulsive, true crime style, the author illuminates the corrupt back story of the pandemic。 However the story is rushed, and the tone used is far too colloquial for such a catastrophic event。
